Lorenzo Milesi “I’m working hard to improve at 360°”

Last April at Per Sempre Alfredo we were struck by the tenacity of Lorenzo Milesi, a young talented rider of the DSM Development team, who was riding with the blue jersey of the national ITalian team.

Lorenzo was protagonist of a long breakaway with Cardona and then he went on alone for more than fifty kilometers and unfortunely he was caught during the last climb, wery close to the finish line: we noticed this 20-year-old playing a leading role in a professional race and this really impressed us and with great pleasure we saw his triumph a few days later in two stages at the Triptyque des Monts et Chateaux in Belgium.

Lorenzo, tell us about your characteristics

I am a fairly all round cyclist, I defend myself on all terrains, I go fast in individual time trials and I’m also strong in climbing, and in these years I have been working hard to improve in all aspects. It’s not still clear for me what kind of rider I will be in the future, so together with the team we are testing my skills to understand if I will be better for me to focus on stage races or classics: now I keep open every possibility then it will be the road to decide my best attitude.

Tell us about your first part of the season, where you won twice in Belgium

Let’s say I had a good start, I had the opportunity to be in the Milano Torino and a couple of races with the Italian national team, the Per Semper Alfredo where I went on a breakaway together with Cardona of Drone Hopper and then I was alone in front for over than 50 kilometers and was joined by Marc Hirschi in the final climg, and it was a really good test followed by Gent Wevelgen Under 23. After these races my condition was really excellent and I won two stages in Belgium in the Triptyque des Monts et Chateaux. A great result but it was not what I expected because during the second stage I got a puncture in a stretch of cobblestones and I had to wait a long time for the wheel change and I lost all the possibilities of winning the general classification. After that race I had a bad accident in training and I worked hard to restart

June and the “Giro d’Italia”

I can say it was a good experience. I tried to win a stage and I came close to it during the fourth stage where I was caught up in the final and I tried again in the last stage but I was caught at the very last kilometer. After the Giro I was in the European Championships for the ITT, where I ended up in seventh position: a strange day where I never managed to find the right rhythm: what a shame! I had good feelings and I am still convinced that I could have been on the podium that day. Few days later at the Giro della Valle d’Aosta I was very strong and I was close to win in the stage of Aosta but I ranked second.

Your goals for this second half of 2022

I want to be protagonist in all races and I will try to win again because getting on the top step of the podium is always a special feeling and then I want to try to earn a place in the first team to be able to take part in the future the most beautiful races in the world as a protagonist.
