Evo Pro Racing, Peter Cevini can’t wait to start again: “Cycling will be the symbol of the rebirth

The Corona virus emergency, a season that has not yet started, anguish and fear that cloud the present and the future do not worry Peter Cevini, indeed his optimism and desire to emerge radiate energy like a ray of light in a stormy sky. Peter, eager to debut with the jersey of the Evo Pro Racing, Irish continental formation, together with the technicians of his team had planned a start of the season between France, Belgium and Holland, with prestigious races such as the Volta in Limburg and the Ronde Van Drenthe, and he was ready to move to Belgium, the team’s logistics base to better prepare for his first seasonal races and test himself against top-level runners, but his dream is only postponed.

Peter, what were your first reactions to the spread of the virus?

“I was particularly surprised, initially I did not understand, it seemed to be between the anvil and the hammer: on the one hand they seemed to want to describe it as if it were a banal influence, but faced with extraordinary measures the gravity of the problem increased more and more. From a cycling point of view it was time to start with a new shirt, in a new context, I was full of energy and I was waiting but this block did not demoralize me, on the contrary the desire to start again is growing and at the right time I will be very motivated to give the best of myself”

In this situation, how are your trainings going?

“The team is closed to us, with technology we are in daily contact and this is a great stimulus. Obviously you can only train with the rollers and it is not easy because I have always detested them and I went out to train on the road even in the rain and the cold but I am lucky to have interactive reels connected to Swift, so they are much more interesting than traditional ones, it seems to be in a video game so I can resist even a couple of hours, in addition to these they become boring too. I do one or two sessions a day and then I keep fit with gymnastics and bodyweight exercises. I don’t even underestimate nutrition, I try to follow a balanced regime, being careful to keep the line ”

The resumption of racing, how long do you think you will find a good condition?

“From the moment the restart is decided I believe that in a month I will be able to find a splendid shape, not only with the training but also need some races to find the race rhythm. Furthermore the team has a metal coach in the staff and we are also working a lot on the psychological aspect so as not to lose concentration and keep the motivations at the top”

Obviously it will be a very concentrated season with close appointments, will it be more difficult?

“I think it could be an advantage for me: when I stay without running I lose polish, but the more I run and the more I can get out of condition. I am a diesel and when I am at the top I stay longer, endurance is one of my best qualities. I have too many stirrings; the higher the level, the stronger you have to go not to lose the wheels and have many closed races I see it as a wonderful opportunity.

How do you see the future of this sport?

“This economic crisis will certainly have an impact on sports, especially on cycling which lives exclusively on sponsorships. There is a serious blow, team managers will have to be good at finding new liquidity and new sponsors and the cycling system could find a way to reorganize itself.
Personally, I sincerely hope that you can come out with a new positive energy, both from the runners and from the public of the fans: as in the post-war period, cycling could restore enthusiasm to restart life and the economy, a true emblem of rebirth “.
