For Mirco Maestri, 2022 is always expected to attack “but looking for more concreteness and results”

Mirco Maestri is a striker, we have seen him the protagonist of endless escapes for example in the Tirreno Adriatico, where he also conquered the points standings and to the Milano Sanremo. He never backs down when there is work to be done for the team but the time has come for him to make the leap. Taking advantage of a meeting at Elmec, one of the sponsors of Eolo Kometa, we talked with him about the expectations for the season that has just begun.

Mirco, your career has come to a turning point: you leave behind the period of the covid that negatively affected you when you reached a highly competitive level and leave with a new team and great motivations

Yes, going back the covid when racing resumed I broke my shoulder blade and that year I lost it completely, a difficult year and when Ivan asked me to be part of his team I accepted me because for me It is a great honor to be part of the team of two great champions like Ivan and Alberto and after six years in Bardiani I needed new stimuli and I’m happy to be in this reality. So far I have brought my experience and I’m enjoying it and now the most important part of the season starts and I’m sure we will prove to be a good group

We have often seen you on the run, at Tirreno, at Sanremo: great attacks, great effort but these attempts hardly reached the finish line. How is morale at the end of certain days?

On the one hand, morale is high, because if today did not go well I can try again at the next opportunity, even the next day as I did at the 2017 Tirreno where I lost the points classification jersey by just one point from Sagan and in the 2019 I took it home going on the run practically every day: in short, in my way of running I brought home some great satisfactions. Here I am asked to play a more responsible role, a new challenge, you will still see me on the attack but trying to realize more

Will your dream be in May?

Of course, but first I have to be able to earn the call-up for the Giro d’Italia then I will try to close that open account that I have with the Giro since 2019 when the stage of Santa Maria di Sala really escaped me for a short time.
